The length of this ident is around the 30 second mark and that is the normal length for a Ident. In terms of simplicity/complexity of the ident this one contains a very different theme that shows a group of hippos swimming around in circles and this is a fairly simple concept on paper, but due to the rather large amount of CGI that is needed to show this idea the ident becomes a bit more complicated and requires more work and time invested into it from the production company. The Ident opens with what looks like documentary footage of hippos in water it then cuts to CGI footage if two hippos swimming together towards a larger group. After they have joined with this other group they then begin to from this circle of hippos that from the below show we have we see that they are circling around the suns reflection into the water. his ident can appeal to almost all ages due to it containing animals and almost anyone can like animals therefore if you are either a young child who is just seeing this animal for the first time or if you are an elderly person who has perhaps seen a hippo in real life you may have a form of connection to this theme. The purpose of this Ident it to show group of hippos from different areas coming together to form a bond and unity. The hippos could be seen a people from different areas and background coming together to form something therefore it purpose is to make people think about their actions and how they can meet other people and achieve things without properly knowing these new people. The ident reflects the corporate identity by sticking to the theme of circles that people associate with the channel of BBC One. -

The length of this Ident is around 26 seconds and it first aired in 2009 and has aired since the start of 2017 when it was replaced with the new set of Idents. In terms of simplicity/complexity this Ident is fairly complex due to its theme and idea. This complexity is not a bad thing due to its uniqueness and this will make people remember the Ident due to the creative design, bright colours and unique theme. The ident does require a considerable amount of CGI which can remove from the investment from the viewer due to it not looking as natural but the unique design still draws people in and makes them remember the Ident. When it comes to the actual ident itself the Ident opens with a shot of someone cycling in the rain in a brightly coloured rain coat and this is something that people can relate to due to it being a simple everyday task that they can do themselves. Then the cyclist comes to a roundabout and is joined by a number of other cyclists in similar brightly coloured raincoats they then begin to circle the roundabout and form this rainbow like circle that immediately catches the viewers eye and makes them invited into the ident due to the eye catching colours. The target audience for this Ident ranges between almost all ages due to the theme of the Ident being something that anyone can do and the bright colours can attract younger ages and this will bring in new audiences. The purpose of the ident is to show people coming together to achieve something and that is something that BBC One has always aimed to show within their idents. Also the idea of Unity and the different colours could represent people from different cultures and background coming together and joining up to achieve something. This ident reflects the channels corporate Identity by sticking to the theme of circles and also using the colour of red which is a staple of BBC One channel idents and logos, these two things are what people will associate BBC One with. |
